No. 1 – Mark Silcocks
Mark has been a Councillor for the Double Bay Ward for 7 years. His focus is finding a balance between growth and progress whilst maintaining the essence of Sydney’s Stylish Bayside Village and protecting the quality of life in Double Bay and the surrounds of Darling Point and Point Piper. Mark is always ready to advocate on behalf of residents and is available to discuss any local issue, no matter how big or small.
During the last 4 years, Mark has worked tirelessly to ensure Woollahra Residents who have any issues or concerns are given a fair hearing on Council and get any problems resolved as quickly and smoothly as possible. He has campaigned especially heavily to protect and preserve Double Bay as Sydney’s Stylish Bayside Village.
No. 2 – Anthony Marano
Anthony grew up in Rose Bay and was educated at Cranbrook. He’s lived in Double Bay, Woollahra and now Rushcutters Bay, where he runs his own TV and advertising company that primarily caters to the needs of Woollahra businesses. Anthony served as a councillor for over 9 years until 2021, representing the Cooper Ward which includes half of Double Bay. He is passionate about protecting historic buildings, especially because too many of them are being targeted for inappropriate redevelopment. Anthony is also keen to preserve the way of life we all enjoy, which in his view involves preserving and enhancing our tree canopy, fighting against bad development and championing good design, especially in the Double Bay commercial centre where Anthony wants to retain the unique village atmosphere.
During his previous time on Council, Anthony was Deputy Chair of the Development Control Committee for five years, until the state Liberal government replaced it with the current system of Local Planning Panels. Anthony was also Chair of the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize for 8 years and Chair of the Plaques Committee, which honours local residents who have been recognised at a national or international level for their field of work. As Chair of the Finance, Community and Services Committee for four years, Anthony developed a deep understanding of how infrastructure is planned and budgeted by local governments.
Having served on Council as a member of a major political party, Anthony now believes big party politics have no place in local government. He’s pleased to be running as as an independent, teaming up with Residents First Woollahra Independents.
